Moving Out and Packing!

You made it through fresher’s week. Suffered through the 9AM lectures, the 2 hour tutorials and the marathon library sessions. You did enough revision that you were genuinely worried at one point for your sanity.

Now you’re finally done, ready to relax and do nothing but watch everything on Netflix you had put off from fear of failing your exams.  But now that Uni is over, it’s time to get ready to move back home … and start packing.

We here at Ziggurat have seen all the different methods for packing and think we have got it figured out. So before you wonder how to even start, read these 3 tips first.

1) Get The Right Equipment

Depending on where you’re travelling to and how, packing can be done easily or be an absolute nightmare. The key to an easy move out is the packing. The key to easy packing is the equipment used!

If you’re lucky and are getting picked up in the car or travelling on the train, a few good sized suitcases or bags can hold mostly everything you need. On the other hand, many of you might need some sturdy boxes to make travelling that much easier.

There are plenty of websites where you can find some packs of boxes and bubble wrap, but the easiest method is to just get the leftovers from shops. Get to your nearest supermarket and ask for spare boxes – Tesco after a delivery will have plenty.

2) Organize Your Items

Now on to the actual packing. At this stage you need to be cutthroat – make sure you’re only bringing what you need and not what you think you might need. Get everything organized correctly and label your boxes for an easy move in later on in the year. Sort through the essentials – many of your things may not be needed until September.

This brings us on to our next point nicely:

3) Use Storage Facilities

Most of the things you have probably don’t even need to come home with you – especially all your books. Storage is your saving grave here, and can be cheap if you look for the right place.

At Wellgate House we offer free summer storage for our tenants; you can just leave your boxes in your room and they’ll be waiting for you when you move in again. Easy!

If you use these steps you can make the moving out experience much easier, quicker and stress free!
